The LA 2028 ticket timeline
Every phase so far, and what comes next. Facts below come from LA28 announcements and press reporting; always confirm details on official channels before buying.
January to March 2026
Ticket Draw registration (Drop 1)
Fans registered for a random draw at Tickets.LA28.org. Selected buyers received email time slots. A locals presale for LA and Oklahoma City area residents began April 2.
April 2026
Drop 1 on sale
Global sales opened April 9 after the locals presale. More than 4 million tickets were sold, a record first drop. Rules buyers reported: up to 12 tickets per person (football has its own separate 12 ticket allotment), seat categories rather than exact seats, and a 30 minute checkout timer.
June to July 2026
Drop 2 registration
LA28 announced Drop 2 on June 10. Registration stayed open through July 22, with random selection for time slots again.
August 10 to 20, 2026
Drop 2 on sale
Tickets across all sports and a range of price points, subject to availability. Just wrapped.
Expected 2027
Official resale marketplace opens
LA28 has named AXS and Eventim as its official secondary ticket marketplace, with Ticketmaster and Sports Illustrated Tickets as verified resale platforms. LA28 says it cannot verify tickets sold outside this network and warns against buying from unofficial resellers before it opens. Pricing rules, caps, and fees have not been announced.
July 2028
The Games
Los Angeles hosts the Summer Games, with softball and canoe slalom in Oklahoma City.
Price reality check
- LA28 initially said about 1 million tickets would be priced at $28.
- Organizers later said about half of all tickets would be under $200, with more affordable tickets promised in future drops.
- Premium sessions ran into the thousands, with reported prices as high as $5,500, which drew significant public backlash.
- California has no law limiting resale markups, unlike France and Italy where recent Games required face-value resale. Expect market pricing on the 2027 resale platform unless LA28 imposes its own caps.
